The red hand guiding the soft spinning clay on the potter’s wheel arrests and holds one’s attention in this enigmatic work by M.F. Husain. The white wheel offsets the presence of the clay and the clay-coloured backdrop. The blue hand that delicately yet deftly rims the pot as it spins and the blue sensuously chiseled woman all add to the ambiguity of this colourful painting. This work is a clear representation of Husain’s transition from earlier toned and molded forms to flat planes within forms.
