Literature Literature Literature This tall statuesque figure of a partially nude woman, brown toned representing the bark of a tree, is stylistically typical, in form and palette, of Husain’s work in the 1970s. The body of the woman has shape and tone and is treated in a more realistic sober manner, distinctive of these early works. Symmetrical brown blotches mark her knees and breasts while her naval has contours of a deep well. Set against deep green foliage she stands quite majestic like the forest fir, her arm extending like a branch. The monkey-like creature crawling up her body halts strategically at her hips that are bound by a minimal waist cloth. This work is one of the important representations of Husain’s sardonic works done over the years.
