A VERY RARE AND FINE TEAK WOOD DOOR PANEL, DEPICTING SARASWATI, ANDHRA PRADESH,SOUTH-INDIA, probably from a zamindar’s (landlord) house. Saraswati is flanked by two ‘devadasis’ holding fly whiskers in their hands with one leg raised. Seated on a throne of foliage with a cushion back with large scrolling leaves, the lower base is formed by a row of flowers with either side having two large pineapples acting as a tassel to the whole frame with flowing foliage and flower patterns to form a ‘Mandapam’ for Saraswati.
