A GENTS ROYAL SHERWANI BELT WITH BASRA PEARLS, south India, c. 1880, made on coarse cotton cloth with elaborate Zardozi work done in gold thread, woven throughout with uniformly round Basra pearls in the form of rows of flowers, with Burmese rubies encrusted in sun-patterned lockets in the centre of each panel of larger flowers, with similar ruby lockets at the end of the belt and with a fine satin lining, measuring 48 inches in length.
