The complex style of Dhumal deals with dreams and myths. The images from the real world are in a constant negotiation with the subconscious images. The females in her paintings are potent and active without being the submissive female stereotypes and the flying images imply sexual desires. Dhumal's works are engulfed by a sense of loss and trauma and tries to capture images that question daily existence.
For Dhumal, colours play a very important role in forming an art language that has an instinctive relationship with nature. Her works show that she tries to explore the extensive possibilities of all the mediums she handles. Though Dhumal prefers to use board for her paintings, since its resistant surface allows for a layered buildup of pigment, her experiments in glass painting are also worth appreciating.
