"For two thousand years or more, Indian history is closely bound up with her textiles. Fine woven cotton was knowns as 'Chitra Virdi' and in Mughal times Abrawan - 'running water'. I got interested in the subject of 'cotton' around 2006. Himroo is a fabric made of silk cotton which is painstakingly woven by weavers in Aurangabad. visited Aurangabad and walked through its narrow lanes. I could hear the click clack of looms. Weavers sit here for hours on their traditional wooden looms. Designs are inspired by what they see in nearby Ajanta and Ellora caves. I was fascinated by their nimble fingers and the way the weavers tossed the thread shuttle, left to right. They moved the paddle with their legs. Occasionally, a woman would take up the weaving. I saw one such woman with a smile on her face, ready to face bravely her day to day challenges. This painting titled Weaving is homage to her and countless other women who have to face the invasion of power looms"- Rekha Rao
