A VERY LARGE AND DETAILED PATT (Marble Relief Mural) OF 'SHARTRUNJAY MAHATIRTH', chased and carved out of pure white Makrana Marble and profusely hand painted and Gold Gilded, depicting the Scared Mountains of Shatrunjay (Palitana in Gujarat). This large Plaque, also called Patt, chronologically shows the journey of the pilgrims from the base of the mountain to the top of the Sanctum Sanatorium of one of the most sacred temples and pilgrimage centre of the Jains. The Climb to the Shrine is through a long stairway passing through wild forests and various smaller Shrines and resting places. Such elaborate Patts were placed in many Temples in the plains and big cities across the length and breadth of the country for the convenience of innumerable devotees who could not afford the long and strenuous journey to make it to the Shrine to perform their prayers for salvation. It is considered very auspicious by every Jain to make a Pilgrimage to Shatrunjay Mahatrith at least once in their life time, and they do so by praying in front of these Patts as though they have personally visited the same.
