Jeram Patel belonged to the indigenous group '1890' and like his contemporaries was involved in the search of the numinous image. He evacuated matter by burning the surface of wood to revel its entrails. His involvement in material and abstraction is a significant tangent in the climate of overwhelming figurative representation. The graphic sensibility and starkness of his works is in part his effort to focus on the elemental forms and has an ominous feel.
