'Pujarini' meaning woman paying obeisance, evokes the stylistic explorations of Jamini Roy based on his observations of the tessera (coloured tile) murals of Byzentine Art. In order to create a similar effect he initially began painting on the traditional chatai (mattresses made of woven dry palm leaf). In the later versions however he realized the same effect with a uniform pointallist treatment. Also worth noticing is his trademark incorporation of profiled structures of Egyptian Art.
