The fluididty of Jamini Roy’s brushwork is perhaps best captured in this slightly informal version of the composition 'Cat eating Fish'. It also projects his interest in the using a geometric arrangement of design that subjugates the form from aspects of realism into a patternised impression instead. As a subject, it brings to fore the Kalighat renditions that had found mass appeal since the early days of its introduction contrary to the prevailing mythological subjects, and has remained so everafter.
