G S Shenoy was a versatile creative mind from Karnataka and was considered something of an activist.Graduating from the JJ School of Art in Mumbai, he would go on to be awarded honours by the Karnataka Lalit Kala Akademi as well as the Central Lalit Kala Akademi for his contributions to art. He was profoundly experimental, leading to him finding a great deal of success while working with a variety of mediums from oil to watercolour to mixed media and metal. He explored numerous themes in his art, taking inspiration from all around him, from everything; the Karnataka countryside, myths, murals and more. He is remembered for his mural work that can be seen across locations such as Mumbai and Bengaluru.
Known for his versatile works across water colour and oils, this is a bold acrylic on canvas and exemplifies his experimentation with mediums. Here, in this 1976 work, a fury of bold brushstrokes creates an abstract vista with vestiges of the vegetal. It is filled with a sense of energy that comes through as palpable and organic, the colours are earthy and natural, captivating the imagination.
