Details Details
Personal letters, spanning pages, directly by the hand of a celebrated artist, to a taste-maker, influencer and respected critic of the time helps in further understanding the persona of an artist and co-relating the thought process to his works for posterity. Two of these rare letters fall in this category:
a) 4-Page letter dated June 21, 1984 written from New York, addressed to Goel (as Souza warmly referred to K.B. Goel) wherein he writes about Intelligence on Earth, Art & Culture, the Indian art scene and also about his diamond jubilee year – turning 60!
b) 4-Page letter dated 22 Aug 1985, written from New York, wherein Souza reflects and states “In my youth I was known as a “rebel”. As a middle aged man, I have developed into a revolutionary.” A thought provoking letter, political in nature and discussing the White Flag Revolution and also informing Goel that he has spoken to his son Bannu (Brij Goel) to “form a youth movement for universal truth and hope.”
