Chittrovanu Mazumdar graduated from the Government College of Arts & Crafts, Calcutta in 1981 and held his first show in the city in 1985. He has also worked in France intermittently.

One of the very powerful of the younger generation of painters, Mazumdar works in oils and acrylics. Bold and vigourous brushstrokes with pure saturated colours mark his semi-abstract canvases. Of late he has been turning towards figurative work and has been using material other than paint on his canvases. Apart from painting, Mazumdar has designed a number of books and magazine covers for leading publications.
