Carries paintings largely by Bengal School artists, many of them forgotten today. The artists represented in the issues are: Abanindranath Tagore, Nandalal Bose, Surendranath Ganguli, Asit Kumar Haldar, Surendranath Kar, Samarendranath Gupta, Saradacharan Ukil, Gaganendranath Tagore, Hakim Mohammad Khan, Mrs Sukhalata Rao, Jamini Prakash Ganguly, Sailendranath De, Charuchandra Roy, Abdur Rahman Chughtai, M. D. Natesan, Bibhutibhusan Bose, Upendrakisor Raychowdhuri, Mukulchandra De, M. V. Each issue also has one or two pages of text commenting on the paintings.
No. 1 – 7 were printed at U. Ray and Sons, Calcutta, a press owned by the family of Satyajit Ray. No. 17 was printed at Prabasi Press, Calcutta.
No. 1 – 7 are in original wrappers with No. 7 cover separated. No. 17 has been bound in full maroon cloth with the title embossed in gilt on cover and original wrappers bound in.
The album was issued by Ramanand Chatterjee, nationalist editor of the monthly ‘The Modern Review’, in the 1920s and there were 18 issues in all. Each issue had 16 plates by contemporary artists as well reproductions of old paintings from traditional schools.

Notes Notes
Despite lacking 10 plates, which have been supplies in faithful Xeroxes, the set is a rarity as even single issues are hard to come by, since they were generally disbound for having the pictures framed.

Condition Notes
The 8 issues offered have 128 colour plates in all. Of these 10 plates are lacking and supplied in fine Xerox copies and pasted in proper slots. No. 1 lacks 2 plates, No. 3 [3], No. 4 [2], No. 5 [2] and No. 6 [1].
