Each issue also has one or two pages of text commenting on the paintings.

No. 1 – 7 were printed at U. Ray and Sons, Calcutta, a press owned by the family of Satyajit Ray. No. 17 was printed at Prabasi Press, Calcutta.

No. 1 – 7 are in original wrappers with No. 7 cover separated. No. 17 has been bound in full maroon cloth with the title embossed in gilt on cover and original wrappers bound in.

The album was issued by Ramanand Chatterjee, nationalist editor of the monthly ‘The Modern Review’, in the 1920s and there were 18 issues in all. Each issue had 16 plates by contemporary artists as well reproductions of old paintings from traditional schools.
