Inscribed on top 'Map of Gwalior State, Scale 16 miles = 1 inch' and further inscribed 'Presented by Public Works Department Gwalior Govt. under the Direction of Shrimant Sadashivrao Khase Saheb Pawar, Home Member Gwalior Govt', with three early tiled photographs depicting Maharaja Madhavrao Scindia in one of them, and the Gwalior palaces in the other two.
Gwalior, in Madhya Pradesh, continues to be one of the most exquisite cities of India. According to local legends, it was said to have been founded by the chieftain Surajpal, in honour of the saint Gwalipa, who cured him of a terrible disease. Details of this map attempt to mark the land contours of the princely state of Gwalior.
