A SCULPTURE OF TWO GREY HOUNDS IN BRONZE WITH RICH PATINA, early 18th century, with the two hounds standing to attention, displaying much elegance and control, their posture attentive, their backs arched and their snouts stretched straight, standing still on a scumbled ground, which reveals the supremacy of their race.
This sculpture was possibly by the Portuguese sculptor and carver Marceliano de Araujo (1690 - 1769). One of the most gifted of the wood-carvers of his time, he created the Portuguese Baroque Church interiors in the 18th century.
