A Qashqai Rug, Southwest Persia, late 19th C. An unusual Qashqai rug drawn with Spontaneity, probably indicating a mixed tribal origin incorporating elements of Luri and Bakhtiari symbolism. The central polar axis is formed with the classic pools traditional to South Persian weavings, each pool filled with representations of flowers and local icons. Eight very large scale botehs are laid out in the negative space left outside the central medallions. Numerous attractive filler elements. A wide and unusual main border including botehs, bars and what appear to be strips of flowers. A very supple and floppy handle, very high lanolin smooth wool.
