A Luri Rug, Southern Persia, late 19th C. The blue field is filled with paisleys in a wide range of colours. The paisleys, or botehs, are skilfully arranged in a diagonal formation, adding a secondary dimension to the naïve composition. Three independent borders frame the central field. The outermost minor is in the classic scrolling vine and butterfly drawing, the handsome slightly wider main border includes stylized flowers and rosettes, and the innermost border is a beautiful multicolour barber-pole representation.
