A Luri or Qashqai Rug, Southwest Persia, late 19th C. The abrashed blue field includes alternating diagonal rows of smaller and larger botehs in a range of colours. The negative space in the field has been used to place random half sawtooth diamonds. A beautiful four border system frames the field. The outer and inner minors are in a barber-pole formed with an array of colours. The outer major border shows icons often found in some Caucasian rugs, and the inner major includes floral leaves and rosettes.
