A Kurdish Rug, East Anatolia, late 19th C. A very primitive and folky Kurdish rug from the Caucasian Moghan steppes. Thick lustrous pile throughout. Elongated and stylized Memling guls (named after the famous Flemish painter Hans Memling) filled with highly abstracted eight pointed stars. Multiple narrow borders with a prominent barber-pole major and mixed trefoil minors.
