A Kurdish Genje Runner, mid 19th C. A very rare and well-preserved example of a long rug likely woven by the Kurdish tribes living in the Caucasian Karabagh area. A stark hexagonal white ground medallion is laid in the center of the overall blue field and all the remaining space is woven with bands of open- top floral botehs arranged in groups of three to a band. The central medallion is filled with various zoomorphic icons and the field is dotted with varied plant, animal and human stylized iconography. Two large major borders, almost equal in width and presence, representing scrolling vine, floral and butterfly symbols.
