A Kurdish Bidjar Rug, Northern Bidjar, late 19th C. A highly unusual Kurdish long rug, probably a tribal Bijar from Northern Persia. The field shows stunning horizontal rows of varying iconography including large scale double headed birds and stripes of colourful botehs. The field symmetry is broken with two central diamonds with concentric rings in different colours. Note the two rows of stylized animals that add to the tribal charm. The border system includes two classic colourful butterfly borders in alternating yellow and white backgrounds, flanked with another border containing geometricized crosses.
