A Gabbeh Qashqai Rug, Southwest Persia, late 19th C. Two diamond medallions covering the field. Old examples of Persian gabbeh (connoting “unclipped” in Farsi) rugs are quite rare. This rug was probably woven by the Qashqai tribe from the mountainous Zagros region. Though worn, the primary composition and beautiful mellow colours set this example apart as a classic piece from the early weaving era.
