A Berber Glaoua Mixed Pile Kilim, Morocco, early to mid 20th C. An Old Berber ‘Glaoua’ rug in an impressive mixed-technique including both flatweave and pile, made by Berbers from the High Atlas Mountains of Morocco. Probably made by an Ait Ouaouzguite (practice) sub-tribe. The technique is slit tapestry (black and white) weave with knotted pile bands and small bands of extra weft-wrapping in black and white. These High Atlas rugs are finely woven but the knots are traditionally coarse.
